Why IS malaria virtually unknown in No. America now? Seems the only time you hear of any concern about it is in the South after a wet winter. Is it because of the use of DDT?
Yes, that mosquitos were heavily killed back with DDT and other pesticides, and Western people who get malaria are treated for it, are a big part of it. But there is another factor--we used to drain our wetlands entirely, instead of growing rice in them.
