Latest Spin: OK If bin Laden Lives

The latest spin from the intellectual elites is that not capturing or killing Osama bin Laden is a good thing.

One person who believes that the world may be better off if Osama bin Laden remains at large is the Central Intelligence Agency's recently departed executive director, AB "Buzzy" Krongard.

Krongard may have good reason to feel that way.

The New York Times reported last week that an internal CIA report found that the CIA leadership was grossly negligent for their activities leading up to Sept. 11, 2001.

The Times said the CIA investigation found that former CIA Director George Tenet and other top officials failed to allocate adequate resources to combat terrorism before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks and should be held accountable.

Rather than being held accountable, Krongard, who stepped down six weeks ago as the CIA's third most senior executive, would like the public to believe he and the CIA served America well.

More than three years have passed since Sept. 11, and the CIA still has not caught Osama bin Laden.

If the world's most wanted terrorist is captured or killed, a power struggle among his al-Qaida subordinates may trigger a wave of terror attacks, Krongard now claims.

"You can make the argument that we're better off with him (at large)," Krongard said. "Because if something happens to bin Laden, you might find a lot of people vying for his position and demonstrating how macho they are by unleashing a stream of terror."

You might also find that if you kill its head, the snake dies.

But Krongard argues that Osama's lieutenants are potentially more dangerous.

Similar spin is coming from collaborationist France.

A Sunday wire story from the French news service Agence France Press (AFP) headlined "No point capturing bin Laden, terrorism will continue anyhow say experts."

The French story continued: "The capture of Osama bin Laden, head of the Al Qaeda network, remains a major United States aim but will not be enough to end worldwide Islamic 'terrorism,' say politicians and specialists."

"We must not suppose that the day we catch Bin Laden will mean the disappearance of terrorism,” French Defence Minister Michele Alliot-Marie was quoted by AFP saying.

"Catching him will change nothing for world terrorism, which is to be found today in networks in a large number of countries.”

One such large country is France, which has been a homebase for radical Islamacists for decades, if anyone bothered to ask.

Of course, eliminating Osama bin Laden may not solve the terrorism problem. But if he is a mastermind and money pipeline for terrorists, killing him may prevent future attacks.

And if, with all of the resources of the CIA and "allies" like France, we cannot capture the likes of bin Laden, how can we expect to penetrate and destroy other terror cells?

Saying it's OK to have bin Laden around is like saying it was OK when the Nazis ran France. Obviously, many French preferred it that way; hence the strange thinking about bin Laden.

I Blog BooksHow about if we kill Bin Laden AND all his lieutenants?

If we do that, though, the left in this country and their moral equivalents overseas may conclude that we have done all that is necessary, and can now go home, and rest secure on our laurels...

...so he may have a point there...

No offense, but who give a rat' a$$ what the socialists and Democrats think?

Killing Bin Laden and Al-Zarqawi will be important accomplishments, but not the end of the war.

I Blog BooksI agree - getting rid of the guys in front doesn't stop the wave. It might, however, let the uncommitted middle of folks here decide the war's over, we won, and can go home.

After all, it's happened before, and in the same area of the world.

Once OBL has been killed, watch what the left wing socialists do. They'll all get on the bandwagon and criticize Bush for not killing him sooner. Even Arafat eventually died so the outcome is inevitable, it's just a question of when OBL goes to hell not if.

Central Intelligence Agency's recently departed executive director...

It is now clear why the CIA has not managed to capture OBL.

It is now clear why Porter Goss fired this ass.
