They've found the body of the man who was dared to swim across Topanga Creek. A FF had to risk his life, lowering himself into a muddy canyon to retrieve the young man's body.

Lake Cachuma must be full if they are releasing water above flood stage....doh!

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LOS ANGELES/OXNARD CA
240 PM PST TUE JAN 11 2005

...FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM TONIGHT FOR THE LOWER
SANTA YNEZ RIVER BELOW LAKE CACHUMA INCLUDING LOMPOC AND VANDENBERG
AIR FORCE BASE...

SANTA YNEZ RIVER AT
NARROWS 10 AM STAGE 17.7 FT
FORECAST TO FALL BELOW FLOOD STAGE TUESDAY AFTERNOON
THEN FORECAST TO RECEDE TO NEAR 12.5 FT TUESDAY EVENING
THEN FORECAST TO RECEDE TO NEAR 12.0 FT WEDNESDAY MORNING
MONITOR STAGE 11.0 FT, FLOOD STAGE 15.0 FT

RECENT HEAVY RAINS AS WELL AS A RELEASE OF WATER FROM BRADBURY DAM
HAS CAUSED THE SANTA YNEZ RIVER TO RISE ABOVE FLOOD STAGE. ALTHOUGH
THE RIVER IS REMAINING WITHIN BANKS SO FAR...ISOLATED FLOODING OF
LOW LYING AREAS IS STILL POSSIBLE NEAR THE RIVER...ESPECIALLY IF
HEAVIER SHOWERS DEVELOP TODAY. THE THREAT OF FLOODING WILL DECREASE
LATER TODAY AND TONIGHT AS THE RIVER RECEDES BELOW FLOOD STAGE.

Unit on scene just ordered more barricades at 70th East and somewhere, where the roadway is buckling -- his words. I just saw a bulldozer screaming up N5 at a fast clip. Hm.

Interesting about Santa Ynez river.

Palmdale Search & Rescue has been notified that people up in the Bouquet Canyon cabins that are stranded, have said they're okay for now and don't want anybody to risk running up there. Vehicles can't make it because roads are all gone. They have plenty of supplies, spotty elecricity but no cell phone coverage.

Hallelujah, some responsible people !!

Turns out they were, but the last batch said we're good.

It looks like the sky is about to open up out here, but the radar seems to be drying up.
