The older I get, the more I believe that a lot of us are born to be optimists and conservatives and a lot to be democRats and gloomers and doomers.

What's the surprise?

Good things happen to those who expect good things to happen -- and bad things happen to those who expect bad things to happen.

Even if good things happen to those who only look for bad things happening, they won't see it. That is the problem in the attitudes and outlooks of most of the people working in journalism/media/academia now -- they only are rewarded/receive attention for bad news. Good news is not only not reported but cannot be detected by such people/personalities. Thus we have the culture that is the present journalism/media/academia of only seeing problems. They're not trained to see solutions so all their "solutions" merely perpetuate the problems.

Thus, their solutions do not end poverty, but extend welfare programs. Their solutions do not eliminate sickness and disease, but make medical coverage unlimited. Their proposed programs do not reduce injustice, but merely put themselves at the top of the totem bureaucracies.

There are two basic orientations when confronted with a problem: The healthy impulse is to eliminate the problem (forever preferably); the unhealthy impulse is to exploit the situation and perpetuate the problem to ensure their own job security. It's the same regard in work: the former regard their task as to eliminate or reduce the problem; the latter thinks their job is to create more jobs -- and therefore MORE problems. In addition to creating more jobs and more problems, they constantly demand higher pay for doing so -- and will even begrudge society for the great sacrifices they made serving themselves.

Most Americans, with the exception of the democraps do not visualize, "Doom and Gloom" as the infinite mindset to view life in America each passing day.

OF course we are!! We were born and bred of OPTIMISTS back when the first Settlers came; later on when so many Immigrants landed here looking for a better life. Look what belief in ourselves has produced! One GREAT WONDERFUL COUNTRY, that's what! Our forbearers had something to Hope and Work for and it must be in our GENES. We will have to keep working harder, however, in order to keep it from becoming a total Socialist System and the ruination of what AMERICA is all about!

Yup, I know people like that. Be careful that their attitude doesn't keep you down. Help them; commiserate with them; but understand that as YOUR situation improves, as good things happen in YOUR life, they will want to distance themselves from your positive outlook. It's not YOUR fault, either, it's THEM.

can't we just admit that the best of Europe left generations ago and their progeny are now Americans?
