Jan 8, 2005 Julia Roberts buys land from Rumsfeld
NEW YORK - With newly born twins, it looks like Julia Roberts needs some extra space.
The actress has bought 13ha of Taos, New Mexico, real estate from Secretary of Defence Donald Rumsfeld, People magazine reports.
According to the magazine, since taking up part-time residence in New Mexico in 1995, Roberts has bought other pieces of property adjacent to hers. The plot purchased from Rumsfeld in an area of Taos known as Des Montes neighbours the 32ha Roberts already owns.
Messages left at the Taos Country Clerk's home and with Julia Roberts' publicist by The Associated Press seeking confirmation were not immediately returned.
Rumsfeld, though, still owns other real estate holdings in Taos, including several houses.
Roberts, 37, and her husband Danny Moder, 35, had twins just weeks ago -- Hazel Patricia and Phinnaeus Walter Moder. The couple were married at her Taos home in 2002.
Boy, wait 'til DU gets a hold of this.
Ten prime acres south of Fallujah
Man, ain't that the truth.
My best friend owns a 4 bedroom home and a surrounding 400 acres down there in Taos, as a vacation home. His father bought the land and built the house himself when he got out of the Airforce back in the early 60's and gave it to him. I shudder to think what it might be worth, and he's scared to death to find out, because he wants to keep it.
I mentioned this to Karen (my wife), said that it would be like throwing water on the Wicked Witch of the West in the Wizard of Oz novel.
Karen and I hope that this woman melts down post haste!
She could star live in an actual Friday the 13th reality.
Does this mean "13 half-acres?" What a quaint way to measure land.
I recall that, when our armed forces were poised to enter Iraq, Rumsfeld's Taos ranch was vandalized by the local "artistic community."
That said, Taos is one of the best places I've ever been, especially the Rio Grande Gorge. I love it and lament the leftie-celebrity invasion of beautiful northern New Mexico.
Maybe they're hectares.
I wonder if Rummy put up shrines honoring people in the Republican Party before he left, including G.W. I certainly would. :-D
Needs more lip collagen warehousing.
I don't think so not hardly 1/2 acres
This deal went for $100,000 per acre. I have a suspicion that Rumsfeld's wife likes the music and arts scene there. Santa Fe symphony etc etc
ha = hectare
which IIRC is pretty close to an acre.
Probably. . . how much is a hectare? Bigger than an acre?
Thanks! FReepers are so factual!
I had a wonderful image of Rumsfeld and Roberts at the closing, until I realized they probably had attorneys take care of it. Oh, well, one can dream.
In Julia's dictionary, "real estate" comes before "republican" (which comes between "reptile" and "repugnant")
