Ping.
I still think that the Dems have won the political battle for the Gov. race - even if they won it with imagined votes.......but I also think that the public knows that this race was won by cheating. I say save the candidate and use him for a Senate race --- ala like Daschle's seat
Maria Cantwell is unbeatable, an absolute shoo-in. Rossi doesn't want a senate seat or a career in politics. He doesn't need it. He wants to clean up the corruption in Washington State.
Here is my slightly edited letter:
TO: Representative Kelli Linville
FROM: Proudpapa
SUBJECT: Don't certify a poor election
MESSAGE: Dear Kelli, Soon you will have the opportunity to prove, once again, how thoughtful, fair, and reasonable you are in representing us in Olympia.
The truth is nobody really knows who won the race for Governor. Therefore I ask that you would support a revote. Let we the electorate decide this race. Anything less would be unfair to either Christine Gregoire or Dino Rossi.
The job of Governor is difficult enough without someone having to deal with constant questions of legitamcy.
To let you know this was my opinion even before the final hand count was even started. The people of Washington are patient, we are willing to wait a little longer to make sure that who ever wins, actually won.
Sincerely,
Proudpapa
Democrats on Thursday said they believe a revote would violate the state constitution, which requires that the governor be elected at the same time as legislators.
The Democrats just stepped in it. If there is a revote for governor, there could also be a revote in all legislative contests. If public opinion continues to boil over about this, a revote would not only produce Gov. Rossi but a Republican legislature too. If I were a Democratic legislator, I would have to balance my fear of running again in 30 to 60 days versus running in 2 years with a pissed-off electorate remembering my vote.
rf...Publius is right...Rossi can't beat Cantwell in WA. For all the reasons he states, and the fact that she will be funded by out-of-state lib/dems at the request of Hillary. Even if he could come close, the Dems would steal the election as they have this one. It's just not realistic for him to concede to run against Cantwell.
What seems odd to me is that Rossi won many of these districts (albeit some by small margins) and there seem to be a disproportionate number of Dem legislators.
What gives?
Is it a case of ticket-splitting by voters...or did the GOP run poor candidates for office?
Anyone?
Since this ends up needing to be posted on every thread about the stolen election, maybe it should just be added as a disclaimer to all the threads. :-)
Especially since it's one of the most positive qualities about Rossi. He genuinely wants to stay in Washington State and take a broom to it.
In other news, I just heard on the radio that Comrade Gregoirovich is holding a press conference today to announce cabinet appointments. They are shameless.
"Saving" Rossi for a Senate race is a fool's errand. First, he has said he isn't interested in running for Senate (I think he believes it is a consolation prize, and if so, he's right). Second, he probably can't beat Cant-do-well anyway. That 'Rat is just too entrenched, the libs love Cant-do-well, and the 'Rats are united behind her. This latter point wasn't true with Gregoire, which gave the Republicans a fair shot at winning, which they did, but it's an opportunity that doesn't come along very often. Third, Rossi won the governorship on the up and up, Gregoire didn't. Why should he lie down for the fraud? How many times is it going to take before we finally say, enough is enough?
There is no parallel between this race and the Thune-Daschle race in SD. This has come up so many times on these threads it time to put it to bed once and for all. First, the political dynamics of SD and WA simply aren't comparable. SD is a midwestern state that leans moderate to conservative in terms of demographics. WA is west coast liberal to a dominant extent. This was Rossi's shot. It isn't likely he'll have another chance. Second, John Thune's goal was to be in the Senate. He lost that in a fraud to Johnson in '02, but got a rematch against Daschle this time. IOW, he was going for the same prize. Rossi ran for Governor, because he believes that is the best position to be in to effect real change. He is right. A junior Senator from a state without much political clout in DC can't really do much to help the state where it needs help the most. Being buried in DC for the next 6 years, dealing with far-removed national issues, is too little, too late, even if he could win that contest.
Ticket splitting. Gregoire is not popular even in her own party. Dino hewed to the middle and tried very hard not to scare moderate Democrats and independents. It worked, otherwise Gregoire would have won in a landslide.
This stinks so bad that I will venture a bet that you will find quite a few Democrats that will leave the party in the State of Washington. The next election will be a Republican landslide. Look what happened to the Presidential election after the 2000 Democrat stuff in Florida.
Rossi may just have to stick it out and run against her in 4 years. Rudy Giuliani did it, his loss to David Dinkins had some questionable voting practices (not as blatant as in WA) - but he bided his time, built up his political base, and came back and beat Dinkins.
BTTT
I've already done my duty there.
Thanks. Just putting the link out there for all to see and hopefully sign. I should have put to "all" rather than just your name - sorry.
It was "funny" to see Demos like B. Boxer decrying possible "fraud" in the presidential race in OH but not saying a word about her liberal neighbors to the north in WA State possibly stealing a governor's election from the rightful winner. I bet B. Boxer is convinced beyond "reasonable dobut" that her party nominee won in WASH State!
It's funny how the 'Rats think that a 120,000 vote margin is doubtful, but a 129 vote "win" is decisive and needs no further scrutiny. Bunch of lousy hypocrites.
One of the reasons Thune won was because South Dakotans overwhelmingly voted for Bush over Kerry.
Bush won't be of much use to a republican candidate in washington state in '06.
