An Israeli aircraft departing from Los Angeles arrived today in Thailand with food collected in the U.S., while a four-day nationwide campaign continues to successfully stockpile food and supplies in Israel.
An El-Al cargo plane loaded with over 3,000 pounds of baby food, medicines and other emergency supplies donated by California residents arrived in Bangkok, with the supplies being transferred to the hardest hit areas of Sri Lanka.
The chartered jet was arranged after an urgent call for assistance was made from Gamini Pemasiri, the acting consul general of Sri Lanka in Los Angeles, to the local consul general of Israel for logistical help in ferrying the supplies.
Over the weekend, a 70-ton shipment from Israel arrived in Sri Lanka from the Israeli charity organization Latet, transporting 250,000 water-purifying tablets, 1,000 water containers, medical equipment and medication. According to Sri Lankan sources, Latet provided the largest aid thus far from any civilian organization.
Meanwhile, a four-day campaign that started on Monday in Israel's supermarkets continues today to collect food to be sent to the tsunami disaster zone in South Asia. More than 4,000 volunteers have stood outside Israel's supermarkets collecting food.
At the end of the first day, Israel's Magen David Adom emergency humanitarian aid organization reported the Israeli public in both Jewish and Arab sectors donated 2.5 tons of flour, 4 tons of rice, 920 liters of oil, 2.5 tons of sugar, 1.5 tons of plain pasta, 39, 000 liters of mineral water, 900 kilos of dried beans and 700 kilos of jams and preserves.
"We had initially chosen just two days for the food drive, but the response has been so incredible, that we've decided to extend it for another two days and ship the goods on Friday from Ashdod port," said Yoni Yagadovsky, Magen David Adom's international director.
Israeli disaster teams were among the first responders to the Southeast Asia region after the tsunami, sending doctors and forensic experts to Thailand. Israel's ZAKA organization is widely considered the most experienced and professional in identifying corpses, and has been asked to direct the efforts of local forensic teams.
The aid funds are essentially mostly going to help Muslims, who hate the US, and Israel. Why do we care to help people who hate us? The Saudis said that they don't want to send too much money lest the funds goes to help the infidel victims! So why us the "infidels" are going crazy helping the Muslims?
Because that is who we are...and the evil we see in Islam...that is what Islam is.
Very well said.
thx
Because we are not Muslims?
Yup...Islam loves death...the Judeo/Christian world loves life (and life everlasting).
Particularly after hearing about the rejection of Israel's donation of medical staff, I'm VERY ambivalent about donating to these relief causes. The road to ruin is paved with good intenions, etc. Anyone care to provide a good summary of the pros and cons of donating my hard-earned dollars to those who "look a gift horse in the mouth," so to speak?
I donated some money right after it happened.
Way before numbers like 900 million / 600 million started coming in from western countries. Hopefully seeing all this money flow in from Europe, America and Irael will give them a reason to pause before they go bashing on us again.
And hey, the Hindus are allies and like Islam just about as much as America does. It could end up going to them.
Good hearts are a beautiful thing to see, aren't they?
Nonsense. I paid nothing. I paid only to the Catholic charity with condition that my money goes ONLY to help Christian victims! If ALL Christians did the same, and our government did the same, the barbarians will never be able to get away with their actions.
See my post number 13.
I think you responded to the wrong person...
