Notice: Whoever's posting stories written by Bob wallace please cease and desist at once!

I have no idea who this guy is or who is posting his stories, but whoever is doing it, please stop.

He's demanding it be stopped or he will call his lawyer. He's also prohibiting me from posting his email message to me (or, you guessed it, he will call his lawyer).

So, rather than post his email message, I'm posting this message:

Do not post stories written by BOB WALLACE!

Thank you.

That is all.

The Principles of LRC

Lew Rockwell, founder and president of the Mises Institute in Auburn, Ala., and vice president of the Center for Libertarian Studies in Burlingame, Cal., is an opponent of the central state, its wars and its socialism.

Not since its inception two years ago has LewRockwell.com laid out its principles, other than to emblazon "Anti-State, Anti-War, Pro-Market" on every page. Another way to sum up that slogan is to say that LRC is pro-liberty. Our aim is to present journalism, commentary, and scholarship that embodies the libertarian ideal – deepening, refining, and applying it across a full range of economic, political, and cultural issues.  (emphasis mine)

Psychedelic philanthropist and shareware leader dies

By D. PARVAZ
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER

Psychedelic philanthropist and computer shareware pioneer Bob Wallace -- Microsoft Corp.'s ninth employee -- died at his San Rafael, Calif., home Friday. He was 53.

During the past decade, Mr. Wallace championed such psychoactive drugs as MDMA, or Ecstasy, donating up to $350,000 a year to groups studying the drug.

"MDMA seems to help reduce the fear people have of really looking at themselves, and it really helps people communicate well," Mr. Wallace told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer in May.

He said he had tried Ecstasy and felt it had "a lot of good therapeutic uses." He also felt the drug helped people feel compassion.

Mr. Wallace and his wife started Mind Books in 1996, a company that provided publications about "mind-expanding plants and compounds."

Rick Doblin, founder of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies, described Mr. Wallace as a generous donor who quietly supported MAPS and other drug-research groups.

Mr. Wallace "had the rare courage of his convictions," Doblin said. "He had a sense that we are overdeveloped intellectually and underdeveloped emotionally."

A talented computer programmer, Mr. Wallace was born in Washington, D.C. He attended Brown University in 1967.

In the 1970s, he moved to Seattle, where he worked at the city's first personal-computer store and attended the University of Washington.

In 1978, after Bill Gates posted a sign on campus looking for programmers for his fledgling company, Mr. Wallace started working at Microsoft as a production manager and software designer. That year, he earned a graduate degree in computer science.

He left Microsoft in 1983 to start a Bellevue-based software company, QuickSoft, producing a word-processing program called PC-WRITE. Mr. Wallace distributed the program free of charge, but users who paid a fee had access to added functions. He dubbed his software "shareware" and is credited for coining the term.

"My philosophy is that I want to make a living, not a killing," he once told writer and software expert Michael Callahan.

Users who distributed Mr. Wallace's shareware would also get a commission if anyone they distributed the software to paid fees.

"Nobody else ever did that; nobody else even tried that. He was the only one," Callahan said.

"He helped as many people as he could. It was how he felt about business," said Callahan, adding that Mr. Wallace often joked that his business philosophy prevented him from becoming more successful.

Mr. Wallace helped found the Washington Software Association in 1985, and married Megan Dana, an artist and QuickSoft employee, the following year.

The couple, who had no children, separated just over a year ago, but remained close.

Mr. Wallace sold QuickSoft to another former Microsoft employee in 1991, and seemed to focus more intensely on researching psychedelic drugs, becoming socially active within the community in recent months.

Doblin last saw Mr. Wallace in April at a dinner party.

"He looked happy," said Doblin, noting that Mr. Wallace had a new girlfriend and was in the process of getting an amicable divorce.

Mr. Wallace died after a bout with pneumonia, according to Marin County coroner Kenneth Holmes.

Another breeder who was almost synonymous with the red-nosed strain was Bob Wallace. However, Bob's basic bloodline was not pure Old Family Red Nose. But in the late 40's he was looking for the red-nosed strain in order to make an "outcross." (Bob was a scrupulously careful breeder who planned his breedings years in advance.) Unfortunately, he found that the strain was nearly gone, most of it having been ruined by careless breedings. He managed to obtain seven pure red-noses of high quality whose pedigrees he could authenticate. The strain was subsequently saved for posterity and in the 1950's became the fashionable strain in Pit Bull circles. In fact, it was Bob Wallace himself who wrote an article in 1953 called "There Is No Magic in Red Noses" in which he tried to put a damper on the overly enthusiastic claims being made by some of the admirers of the strain. No more fervent admirer of the Old Family Reds ever lived than Wallace, but he obviously felt that the strain could stand on its own merits.

Aquaculture advocate
When he got out of prison, Dickey put the experience behind him like a rough sea voyage. Returning to a relatively quiet life in Wellfleet, he served as an advocate for expanding the town's aquaculture industry, maintaining fishermen's rights to access to the tidal flats and improving the town's herring run.
Dickey survived the prison stretch, said Norton, because of his ability to relate to people and a toughness honed by three decades at sea on offshore scallop boats.

That toughness was tempered with a soft side.

The guy known to New Bedford shipmates as "Provincetown Slim" was no longer that when he took over as shellfish constable in 1998, promising to expand aquaculture. The big gray beard, leather cap and dark aviator shades were already a common sight on Wellfleet's productive tidal flats after Dickey did stints as assistant, then acting shellfish constable.

Enforcement of shellfish regulations was part of the job, but Dickey was willing to give the working guy a break, shellfishermen said.

"I think he remembered his roots, as far as being on the other side," said Bob Wallace, a Wellfleet aquaculturist and president of the Massachusetts Aquaculture Association. "As long as he reached his goal, he did it his way."

Bob Wallace of Fredericksburg was the first spectator on the scene. He arrived at 5 this morning.

"It's sort of out of respect for the dam," Wallace, 54, explained.

"It's done its job well. It's a landmark."

Wallace, a librarian at Stafford High School, said he passes the dam every time he goes to school in the morning.

"It's gonna be strange. I'm gonna miss it, but I'm not going to miss portaging around it."

Wallace has been canoeing the river for years and says he's probably portaged around it 100 times or more.

Evidently, that got Richard's attention. Last week, he informed Veterans for Peace that it was free to contact the principals of the two schools about getting "added to the classroom speaker list" and to discuss giving "library presentations" to larger groups of students.

Bob Wallace, principal of Arcata High, said the counter-recruiters would be treated the same as the military recruiters.

Richards also dropped his demand that members of the group be fingerprinted, a standard screening procedure aimed at detecting child molesters and other criminals. As both Willson and Bill Thompson, another member of the group, pointed out, veterans have already been fingerprinted. They also didn't see the point since the group was only going to be addressing students in groups, not one-on-one.

Walton returns strip club money

By Patrick Crowley
The Cincinnati Enquirer

FLORENCE - During his decade serving in Frankfort, state Rep. Charlie Walton has talked often about how his faith impacts his life and his decisions on policy and legislation.

The 57-year-old Florence Republican teaches Sunday school at Florence Baptist and has talked often of his deep moral conviction in opposing abortion, gay marriage and casino gambling.

So when Walton - an elementary school principal locked in a tough GOP state Senate primary to be decided Tuesday - released a campaign finance report this week showing a $500 contribution from the partial owner of a Gallatin County strip club, eyebrows raised.

Walton acknowledged Tuesday night a member of his campaign accepted a $500 contribution from Bob Wallace, a Grant County pharmacist and co-owner of Racer's Gentlemen's Club in Sparta.

But Walton also said he had "no idea" who Wallace was when the personal check arrived. By Wednesday morning, the check had been returned to Wallace, Walton said.

"With my moral convictions, I'm not going to take money from someone in that type of business," Walton said. "I'm a Baptist Sunday school teacher, and I am totally against that stuff."

Walton sent a letter to Wallace saying that while he appreciated the support, "we are unable to accept your contribution."

"Our campaign had no prior knowledge of your affiliation ... with an adult-entertainment establishment," Walton said in the letter. "Our personal and professional standards do not condone any such activity and consistently stand against such."

But in a tough battle with incumbent Senate President Pro Tem Dick Roeding, R-Lakeside Park, his opponents are using the contribution as fodder for blistering attacks.

"For someone with such a self-righteous attitude to take money from strip-club people ... is an embarrassment to the Republicans of this state," said Senate President David Williams, R-Burkesville, who supports Roeding and has clashed with Walton over issues in Frankfort.

Williams was angered recently when Walton blamed him and other legislative leaders for the budget impasse in Frankfort.

Lawmakers have yet to pass a two-year state budget.

Williams pointed out that Wallace's brother, Cliff Wallace of Williamstown, is running in the fall general election against Sen. Damon Thayer, R-Georgetown, who represents southern Kenton County in Frankfort.

"That shows the Democratic operatives are trying to beat a strong Republican leader, and they are trying to use Charlie Walton to do that," Williams said.

Roeding's campaign spokesman, Patrick Flannery, said he was "shocked and disgusted that an elementary school principal and Sunday school teacher would take money from a strip club, an institution that exploits women."

Wallace, who has operated Grant County Drugs in Dry Ridge for 40 years, said he gave the contribution to a Walton supporter.

"Charlie did not know I owned Racers," Wallace said Wednesday. He said he supported Walton over Roeding because of Roeding's stance on prescription-drug issues and other health-care legislation.

Walton tried to suggest that Roeding has advocated legalizing casino gambling in Kentucky and taken contributions from gaming-industry lobbyists and executives.

But a review of Roeding's campaign finance reports revealed no such contributions. And people involved in gaming said that while Roeding has always been open to dialogue on the issue, he has never advocated legalized gambling in Kentucky.

Even though Walton appears to have political cover by returning the contribution, his opponents are sure to use it against him in the final days of the campaign. Boone County is not only Kentucky's largest GOP-controlled county based on voter registrations, but it is also known as a stronghold of conservative thinking on social issues.

"I wonder what the (congregation) at Florence Baptist Church ... would think if they knew Charlie had taken a $500 contribution from the owner of a strip club," said Ted Smith of Park Hills, a Kenton County Executive Committee member supporting Roeding.
