President Bush and his wife, Laura, got a new pet on Thursday, a Scottish terrier puppy named Miss Beazley.
The puppy, a gift to the first lady from the president for her 58th birthday in November, was born on Oct. 28. The puppy joins the Bushes' other two pets: Barney, another Scottish terrier, and a black cat named India.
Miss Beazley, named after a dinosaur in a popular children's book, is the daughter of Barney's half-brother.

How come in the White House "Barney-cam" video this Christmas, W refers to the cat as "Willie"?
It's a good idea to do a search before posting an article. This article has been posted 3x now.
Don't you just love it that they named the dog "Miss Beazley"? Apparently, it really torques the person who wrote the book, who is a big time Lib,or so I'm told.
I know, I shouldn't be amused because someone is angry.
I just cannot help it.
Oh my goodness. Check out that cute picture in #4!
I checked and that's just what they call the cat. I thought it was a different cat at first! But "Willy" is her nickname.

Miss Beazley..........wasn't that the name of Muffy or Buffy's doll in the old "Family Affair"????????
Very close. The doll was Mrs. Beasley. This puppy is name after a character in a children's book about a dinosaur.
How cute! W certainly know how to pick 'em.
She's *very* cute....and so's Ms. Beazley! :-)
Somebody griped about the implications of identifying a black cat with the name of a nation, so her name was changed. Of course, we do still talk about "India ink"...
I'm aware of back when someone griped about her given name, but the context I read indicated they already had given her her nickname so I don't think it's related which is why I didn't mention that madeup brouhaha.
They did have an orange cat named Willie in Texas. He didn't move to the White House because they thought it would be too traumatic for him, so maybe W just calls every cat Willie. Kind of like people that call every dog Buddy.
Nope, I have to correct myself. Ernie was the Texas cat. Willy is the same cat as India. I think it's because you let your kids name animals and end up calling them what you think is a more fitting name when the kids are not around. ;)
