In the spirit of Congressman D. Crockett:
"There is one thing now to which I will call your attention. You remember that I proposed to give a week's pay. There are in that House many very wealthy men men who think nothing of spending a week's pay, or a dozen of them for a dinner or a wine party when they have something to accomplish by it. Some of those same men made beautiful speeches upon the great debt of gratitude which the country owed the deceased a debt which could not be paid by money, particularly so insignificant a sum as $10,000, when weighed against the honor of the nation. Yet not one of them responded to my proposition. Money with them is nothing but trash when it is to come out of the people. But it is the one great thing for which most of them are striving, and many of them sacrifice honor, integrity, and justice to obtain it."

I heard the UN is going to administer the aid. I won't be contibuting another cent until I am assured to the contrary. If I want it 'partied' away, I'll give it to my 19 year old son.

I get very suspicious when I hear them saying "send only cash"... I'm with you on this.

Soon these nations will have more money than us. How do we know the money won't go to the Jihadi in certain nations?

Thanks. Given that no one (human) is good, (See Psalm 53, as well as the witness of history) what possesses us to invest any one with power to wrest life, liberty and property away?
Enquiring minds want to know!

Osterfeld quoted a Micronesian political official as saying, "We have no technicians, no plumbers, no electricians. We have no economic base to be self sufficient because the U.S. government just handed us everything . . ."Reminds me of the city of Rang'Shada in Terry Goodkind's "Faith of the Fallen."

You were right, of course. It speaks the harsh truth that many refuse to see, hear, or understand. No matter how noble or worthy the cause, the usual solution is often wrong.

A must-read for anyone who thinks throwing tax dollars at the problem is "the right thing to do" or is going to keep the region "stable."
Excellent article. Thanks for the ping!
