I'm going to do a wee bit of bragging here. I can, I'm the mom and my kid is going to Iraq. :)

I've been on this base 3 times now. I've met lots of soldiers, many are going on their second tour. I've even met some of her bosses. She's an expert on her weapons. She was given an opportunity to shoot a 9mm pistol. She's never shot a pistol in her life. There are 15 bullets in the case that loads the gun. (Don't shoot me cuz I don't use the proper lingo, I'm still trying to get brigade, battalion and unit straight... LOL!) On her very first attempt, she missed the first two shots, that was just sighting in. she shot 3 more cases of bullets, or 45 additional bullets. Out of 60, she hit 54. she an expert on her M16 and all the other weapons she's qualified on. She has not qualified on this pistol. Two different sergeants told me at two different times, if she was a guy, she'd be in sniper school.

Just a story about my kid....

rifles and handguns are two different shooters altogether. I give pistol shooting lessons for the NRA and wonder if she shouldn't ask someone to give her some more tips. It's a ton harder to hit a target with a pistol and men are usually better at it if their arms are stronger. Women, on the other hand are often better with rifles than men because they have more support lying down.
