$11 million could be saved annually per inmate if California allows prisons to be worked by private contractors.

We'll the interview is now over, it was much shorter than the John and Ken interview earlier.
Nothing earth shattering, however I did notice Tom say that he would rather the governor try to get the authority for midyear spending cuts without consulting the legislature than push for across-the-board spending cuts.

We'll Eric does have on his blog a message that says his guestlist will be 'unmatched'.
By the way, the word from Eric is, as usual, Arnold did a fantastic job.

Putting your two sentences together, I'd bet that his guest will be a phone-in from AS himself.
I'm sure it will be a hard-hitting question and answer /sarcasm

Excellent speech by Arnold. Nails on the blackboard to the enemy. I think he added to his clout with centrist voters, while giving the conservatives a great deal to be happy with. If '05 is like this speech, it will be a historic year in our state's history.
If only we had an equally good communicator in the White House.
To: California Patriot
Most California voters are in the middle... We conservatives have get used to the fact our state will never be Texas. The demographics just won't elect right-only candidates to statewide office here. But they can elect a lot of centrists. Pushing both parties more towards the middle is good. If the GOP nominates a more moderate conservative than Bush, its possible California could be up for grabs again.

I propose retired judges Yeah, grab 'em off the CA district and supreme court, right? Just what we need, liberal judges deciding how many Democrats get elected next time.
Instead of letting the Dem pick their own district boundries, have a sit down conference and argue about it, politician to politician, party to party.

California has tourism. California has the entertainment industry. California has the aerospace industry. California has the technology industry. California has an agricultural industry that's larger than the economies of all but the ten largest countries.
California has a large population, with a large average income, who pay a large State income tax. California has enormous revenues.
So California should be awash in cash, should be the wealthiest State in the Union. But California is broke.
California is now and has been controlled by a Democratic legislature for virtually all the last fifty years.
Help me connect the dots.

What you say makes sense, but should not be interpreted to mean that a Republican governor or candidate shouldn't selectively take clear conservative positions -- much less that he should be nice to the Democrats.
To: sevry
I believe it would be a 3-member panel appointed by leaders of the legislature. That said, if the Dems get to appoint two of the three, it's not clear what the gain would be.
Better to appoint a slightly larger, even-numbered panel.
But there's still the problem of who would appoint them.
