Toll Road Tax, for a car that gets 25 miles per gallon = $5.00 per gallon (20 cents per mile, 25 miles per gallon).

That's what our lovely governor is doing to us here in Texas.

That may not bother the people who have an extra $5,000 per year of spare change - but some of us don't.

As to the "free" roads - the governor could show some leadership, for once, and propose a reasonable increase in the gas tax - just to catch up with inflation. Heck, even the Republicans in the US House voted to increase the gas tax (last year). They had some courage (the dorks in the Senate shot it down, however).

People need to realize that Perry will go down as the most punishing governor, bar none, in TX history. I will vote for anyone who opposes this scheme (including Perry, if he somehow would grow up and drop this scheme).

Of course if I win the lottery, I'll probably volunteer to work in Perry's re-election campaign. Then I can afford to drive on these Lexus Highways, while all the little people can live on the crumbs.

And traditionally South Texas pays in taxes but gets less than its fair share of spending. Why shouldn't the people who actually benefit from a road be the ones that pay for it?
