BERLIN (AFP) - Seven-time world Formula One champion Michael Schumacher of Germany has donated 10 million dollars to the victims of last week's Asian tsunamis, his manager Willi Weber said during a German telethon.
"The dawning of the New Year has not been as joyful for us this year because of the catastrophe in Asia. We sympathise with the victims in their grief," Schumacher said.
The death toll from the massive December 26 earthquake and resulting tidal waves around the Indian Ocean neared 146,000 Tuesday.
13 M?
Has the world gone bunker?
13 million?
NOW THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!!!
God bless Michael Schumacher.
Semper Fi,
Kelly
In related news, the French whine increased too.
Yeah...
In the meantime, some Christian woman in Nigeria is feeding her baby roasted beetles in between hoping to evade roving bands of machete-wielding Muslims..
Although I'm one of the 'anyone but Schumie' crowd, (the guy is unbeatable) and I know the guy makes an unbelievable amount of money (90M/yr without endorsements), he is noted for his generosity on many fronts.
Well Done Mr.Schumacher.
What a legend !
Yep.....and few seem to give a damn.
"Well Done Mr.Schumacher.
What a legend !"
And a legend he is.
Its only a matter of time before Larry Elison donate 50 million, then Bill Gates, 100Million... the Richard Branson, a spaceship..
He's probably taxed at the 98% rate....
Bravo Schumi !
Depending on your definition of the word "athlete", Schumacher is the highest paid athlete in the world. If he is a resident of Germany for tax purposes (and I doubt that - my guess is he is a resident of Monaco) he probably pays so much in income taxes that he is probably giving up about 2 million in disposable income in order to contribute 10. That's no slight - it's a most impressive act (as is the contribution by Sandra Bullock - whose tax motivation is less compelling.)
Kewl! I wonder how much will end up with Al Qaeda.
Maluku has settled down considerably over the past eighteen months which is great.
He definitely makes American celebrities look like misers!
I'm not too sure, but I think his residence is Monaco.
With Jag bagged, and now with this news, well, I just may go and root for Ferrari this F1 Season.
Well done, Michael, well done, indeed!
