2/3 of FL provisional ballots rejected ("voter" not registered)

Rejected ballots Nearly two-thirds of the provisional ballots cast in Florida on Election Day were not counted, mostly because the voters were not registered, officials said yesterday. County elections officials said 27,742 provisional ballots were cast and 9,915 were counted, but 17,827 were rejected. The numbers may be revised, but are not expected to change dramatically, the Associated Press reports. "The majority of the ones that were rejected were because the people were not registered to vote," said Jenny Nash, spokeswoman for the Florida Department of State. Provisional ballots are used when poll workers cannot immediately confirm if a voter is properly registered. According to an analysis by the Tallahassee Democrat newspaper, slightly more than 7 percent of the provisional ballots were tossed because voters had been purged from the rolls. They were dropped because they had not voted in several years or were found to be ex-felons, the paper reported. President Bush defeated Democrat Sen. John Kerry in Florida by more than 380,000 votes, or five percentage points.

Gotta be Katherine Harris's fault.

Thousands were registered by students egged on by activist teachers. And yes, I do know this is true because I know some of the teachers who did this.

What they did is technically legal, but in my opinion morally reprehensible as they knew many of those so "registered" would not stand scrutiny.

Unfortunately, the whining Liberals in SE Florida will now say that 17,000 votes were thrown out by Bush. Blah, blah, blabber, blabber.

Fortunately, their 'educational" efforts were voided by the voters.

In an unrelated story, 17,000 votes for Gregoire were found in Florida.

NOt here in good old Socialist Republik of Washington. King County ACCEPTED 84% of the provisional ballots, and their rat candidate *just happened* to come up with 130 extra votes on the THIRD COUNT that made her the "winner" and gave her a "mandate" as "governor." Yes, you heard correctly.

Perhaps they were Bush votes, but the registration was collected and discarded by a DemocRATic non-partisan registration group.

Perhaps we should contact some of the Ukrainians to come over and fine tune our electoral system. It seems like we are having an awful time holding simple voting procedures.

According to our news here (in Florida), there are about 45,000 people registered here and in NY. I don't recall the exact percentage, but it seems that about 80% of those are registered as.....drum roll please.......Democrats.

Everyone who is surprised to learn this, please climb a mountain and seek enlightenment.

Will we ever get this cleaned up. I'm all for state's rights but maybe we need national guide lines for national elections.
