He hit 100 RBIs or more exactly twice, in 1990 and '91, when he had exactly 100 both years, and that was despite having 40 home runs in the juiceball year of 1990. Compare that to, say, Ernie Banks Oh, OK, you're comparing him to guys in the 500 HR Club! When you called him a "lightweight", I didn't realize you were using so high a frame of reference!
Banks was an infielder too, and a dang good defensive player. If we're going to put Ryno in, I don't think it's unfair to see how he stacks up against the guys already in there. We don't have a two-tier HOF system, after all - one for guys who were
great, and a lower tier for guys who were
pretty good. IMO, Ryno was
pretty good, but not
great, and I don't think
pretty good is enough for a meaningful HOF.
Of course, "pretty good" describes most of the inductees for the last decade or so, so what the heck - might as well let 'em all in at this point ;)
