As for the liberal, 'Bush' Republicans, a careful choice of an Eastern, moderate running mates, perhaps Governors Mitt Romney or George Pataki, or Senators Judd Gregg would secure them.

I disagree here. While Bush is definitely not the fiscal conservative we'd hoped him to be, most Bush voters would support an heir to Reagan like Sanford without having to put in a fuzzy moderate running mate, methinks.

I wanna see Pres. Sanford take a couple of piggies up to capital hill. Gov Sanford is the one of the most conservative politicians in the country, although he is considered a "maverick".
