The photo in question came from an Agence France-Presse (AFP) photographer named Jimin Lai. Getty bought the photo, along with the NY Times.
There is some speculation that the photo has been altered. (Not by the NY Times or even Mr. Lai, who has a good track record with over 10 years as a veteran photo journalist, but by someone at AFP.)
The image on the t-shirt looks better focused than other objects at the same distance.
