You are missing one of the world's great food treats by forgoing steak and kidney pie (or pudding). British food is generally bland, overcooked and very uninteresting, but they do a few things well and that is one of them.
Eel isn't bad but and I have eaten kidney (once) I'm too old to get drunk enough to eat it twice.
