Skukuza - There's nothing more hair-raising than having a flat tyre in the Kruger National Park (KNP).

But you no longer need to fear becoming lion fodder.

The park has opened an emergency call centre to provide help, whether it be to help you change a tyre or even find your way if you're lost in a camp.

"This is just another way in which we are trying to give our clients a world class experience," said park CEO, Dr Bandile Mkhize. "And we trust that our guests will use this service responsibly and proactively."

Visitors are also urged to report anyone who disobeys park rules to the call centre.

The centre, which opened in the main camp of Skukuza two weeks ago, can be reached on (013) 735 4325.

Well, if it's been a National Park since 1926, it certainly is nice that in 2005 they have gotten around to providing a number to call if you are about to be eaten by a lion....

The lion go right up to your cabin door if you aren't careful. Most cabin in Kruger National Park have big gates around them. Oh and not to mention the killer elephants too.

Some of these idiot libs from Europe and US go there thinking that animals are just like people or people are just like animals. They go in without weapons assuming that Mr Lion and Mrs. Tiger wouldn't possibly eat them since they are against Bush, America, and meditate. Sort of like the story a year or so ago of the man that was eaten by a Grizzly because he "understood" bears by acting like them and becoming "one" with the planet by meditating nude on a hill in the forest. He got too close to one Grizzly "brother" and started acting like a bear. Mr. Grizzly didn't think so.

ROTFLMAO! Survival of the fittest :-)

I work in emergency services, and I've come to believe that if it wasn't for stupid people, 90% of us would be out of work. The majority of people we have to deal with are either mentally or ideologically deficient or both, and we are interfering with the natural strengthening of the gene pool by doing our jobs.....

I have visited the Kruger National Park. It is an amazing place. Upon entering the park, you are instructed not "get out" of your vehicle at any time "except" at the visitor centers which are protect by fences and other barriers. For those that violate this directive and become Lion food, so be it. I have some wonderful photos of my time in the park! Like Lions hunting! Eleven species at one watering hole!
