This always happens once a year, sad to say.

Without fail, this identical story is repeated many times: cold weather, college students, alcohol, and death.

An Eastern Michigan University student died Saturday after drinking a large amount of alcohol and taking drugs....What? You mean alcohol and drugs are unhealthy? I'm shocked. < /sarcasm>
I find it VERY hard to feel sorry for this sort of thing. I feel sorry for the parents, the siblings and those who loved this pathetic schmuck. What idiot does not know that drugs are bad, and drugs mixed with alcohol is worse. This is proof that Darwin was on to something; at least this idiot is out of the gene pool.

Once a year, the city I grew up in gets top billing in the news for some sort of idiocy. I moved out of Ypsilanti in 1981, but I can't seem to get away from it entirely due to such regular news stories.

Cold weather produces fatal hypothermia in drunk frat morons.

Distilled spirits plus recreational drugs equals death.

Many years ago, I knew of a college student that drank himself to vegetable status, went into a coma and stayed that way for years before finally dying.

How sad. Somebody raised this kid...sent him off to school...for what? So he could drink in excess, do drugs and kill himself?
What a sad loss.

I am always Piss** off when this happens, because somewhere out there is a outstanding student that would have given his right arm to have this opportunity. To go to College, but no, some jerk goes, does himself in with Booze and drugs. Too Bad.

Sounds like his Dad never taught him the principle of, "cause and effect." Plus, the kid should have taken some Economics classes in high school or college. Seems the kid only understood inelastic demand.

When I was a young college punk at the University of Denver (5,000 ft), a beer had more effect than at sea level. Then at one party I did a doobie... Uh, oh. Never did that combo again. The synergistic affects of the three combination was carefully measured by my bright understanding of chemistry./sarcasm

There is a course taught by liberal college professors, Drinking 101. All liberal professors teach the art of drinking and doing illegal drugs. Most professors were drug experts in the late 60's and early 70's. Although I feel bad for the student's family, they should have known that sending a mush for brains kid to a liberal college is not always the smartest thing to do.

Sad, but who held the gun to his head forcing him to take drugs and drink? Just say no.

For all those reading this running out of tissues, kids funeral is on Tuesday.
Peer pressure is rough on those who haven't quite defined their identity yet. Who were you at the age of 20? Please, disregard this question if you are not yet 20.

Peer pressure wasn't bad for me at 20. I also had a circle of friends which I've known for years as well.
That said, I was real stupid once and got real lucky by being able to get up. I was 18 then. I drank a fifth and a 6-pack(at least). I don't remember that much, but I remember being scared when I got back to my dorm room.
I learned from that. I rarely touch the hard stuff. (outside of a single "Spirit of the Deer/Turkey" shot during hurting season once the guns are put away) It's when I get in trouble.

how can you be so cruel... yes it may be his fault from drinking & doing drugs, but still he died... this poor kid died because of peer pressure.. I know him, knew him well. He was very bright, never in a million years would i have though that he would sink in to peer pressure. Put your self in his parents shoes... would you want to hear someone call your son a "pathetic schmuck", or an "idiot", etc" You are a very inconsiderate person. You should be ashamed of yourself!
