A guardian angel.
Very interesting! I had no idea there was a 10 minute warning. Wish geography had been so well taught and well learned in the area.
A beacon of light on a dark day.
No surprise it was a Brit... for all of their faults, having level heads in a crisis seems to be an inherited genetic trait.
This girl deserves an A+.

Another story on this amazing event:
Terrific Tilly
THERE have been many amazing stories of survival.
But few can match that of 10-year-old Tilly Smith.
The Surrey schoolgirl, on holiday in Thailand with her family, knew a tidal wave was coming when she saw the tide rush out.
She had learned about tsunamis in geography just TWO weeks before Christmas.
Amazingly, instead of laughing off her warning, a hundred people evacuated the beach.
It was one of the few resorts in Thailand where not one person was killed.
We are very proud of Tilly, whose cool head saved so many.
Her headmaster at Danes Hill school in Oxshott says Tilly showed sharpness and wisdom beyond her years.
That is what I thought also, it seems that all the residents should have been taught that in school. Society has been dumbed down in Asia also though I suppose.
Another excerpt:
...The adults were curious, but Tilly froze in horror.
"Mummy, we must get off the beach now!" she told her mother. "I think there's going to be a tsunami."
The adults didn't understand until Tilly added the magic words: "A tidal wave." ...

Smart girl. She should get an award of some sort.
I saw a report yesterday that an entire village in Indonesia headed for the hills because the tradition handed down for generations was that after an earthquake, everyone evacuated to higher ground for a time. Though their homes were swept away, no one on that island was killed. I'm sure that oral history will be repeated by generations to come.
Thanks for posting. I had started to wonder myself why nobody seemed to realize what the outflow of water portended. Perhaps lack of education can be blamed for some, but it seems strange that almost no one reacted properly -- except this little girl.
Sorry... I mean't to include you as well to this story.
Meanwhile, the adults, entrusted with the knowledge of the earthquake and the responsibility for warning millions, did nothing.
They should have this girl's picture on the wall when they try those scientists and government officials for criminal negligence.
And the trial is about to begin. As soon as freezing conditions in hell force all the pigs there to fly away to safety.
"Thanks for posting."
Dittos! This is a great story.
I also read about some Japanese tourists who realized what was happening and warned other folks to leave the beach. The other people thought there was an earthquake happening and they'd be safer in the water than near the building on shore.
great report, thanks much.

I heard that stay on the beach thing too. It reminded of the police and security telling people to stay in the WTC. NOT!!!
