Bunches of perfectly serviceable M-14s were destroyed during the Idiot Clinton's administration. Wouldn't want then equipped with new semi-auto receivers (or for that matter having blocks welded in to make then permanently semi-auto) and sold to us peons now.
My understanding is that the Clintons ordered *boxcar loads* of priceless match ammo and guns destroyed. Apparently they had several destruction centers set up around the US and had the stuff shipped there by rail from all over the US to be destroyed.
I also heard (this is all hearsay, FWIW) that the military now has to purchase its match ammo from the lowest bidder, and that it is much inferior to the stocks of Lake City Arsenal match ammo which was destroyed. I'm sure that's true of the M14s... AFAIK they were all built by TRW and were also far superior to anything that is currently manufactured.
