Black Caucus Warns Harry Reid The Congressional Black Caucus has told Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., that he crossed the line earlier this month when he called Justice Clarence Thomas "an embarrassment to the Supreme Court." Sen. Reid delivered the personal insult to Thomas during a Dec. 5 interview on NBC's "Meet the Press," after host Tim Russert asked him whether he thought the lone black justice was qualified to head the court. "I think that he has been an embarrassment to the Supreme Court," Reid said, before adding: "I think that his opinions are poorly written. I just don't think that he's done a good job as a Supreme Court justice." With the announcement that the Black Caucus had reprimanded Reid for his attack on Justice Thomas, Rep. Watt becomes the first Democrat to publicly acknowledge that the senator's remarks were racially offensive. Listen to Steve Malzberg and Karen Hunter, 6 to 10 a.m. weekdays, WWRL-AM 1600, simulcast on the Web at wwrl1600.com/mainframe.html.

"We wrote a letter to Sen. Reid cautioning him about his comments," incoming CBC Chairman Mel Watt, D-N.C., told radio host Steve Malzberg, who was filling in Wednesday on Bill Bennett's "Morning in America" show. "I think all of us ought to focus more on substance and less on stereotypes and caricatures," Watt said.

I'm not so sure about that...I think he made that idiotic remark to tell President Bish to not even THINK about nominating Justice Thomas for the position of being Chief Justice because it might (???) possibly move a few more black votes off the Dims plantation...not for racist reasons.
Good point...wonder what turned the tide?
I think what "turned the tide" was the fact that the bigot (who is white) was sitting right next to them this time.
"It will also give them a chance to throw her overboard"
That makes sense - I agree that she's about the last person that the Dems wanted in Congress.
Thanks
the ice only gets thinner in the direction you are heading. Look around and see where you are at.
I really hadn't ever paid any attention to Reid until about a month ago...and after watching 5 or 6 interviews...I can say the guy is about as slanted and dim as they come. He may have grown up in some small town in Neveda...but the guy reminds me of some used car dealer...saying something that you'd want him to say...but its in way that you couldn't trust him. For the democrats...they really have slipped on picking him...but its their loss...not mine.
Reed is a racist.
And, the more he "sings" the better for our cause!!!
Or in other words, in their petty little minds, it's OK for THEM to verbally attack Thomas since he's black, but it's not OK for anyone else to?
The double-standard in America continues.
Black conservative ping
If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)
Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.
To do so, Reid would have had to have read at least one of CT's decisions. What do you think the chances of a political hack like Reid having read even one of those decisions, or that he would be able to point out a Constitutional flaw if there were one?
Reid was just playing the boilerplate stereotype that the Rats always play against black conservatives but he let his words slip off the narrow ledge to imply that all blacks are stupid. That's why he's getting his weinne whacked by the CBLC.
Coming from Nevada, Reid is simply not as experienced at playing the race card as the majority of Rats are.
He has a mixed record on that which defies explanation. One thing about him is clear, though. He votes for more spending at every opportunity, and the more the better.
Don't hold your breath for hate-filled Harry's rascist attitudes to all y'all to change, Representative Watt.
How many black 'bishops' are their in Harry's [LDS] 'church,' yet?
How many 'saints?'
Not too darned many, that's for sure!
What does the Congressional White Caucus have to say about this?
Asking the black caucus to pick up a shovel is probably considered racist by them.. or a job for Justice Thomas.. with his homey Scalia..
You got that right.
Happy New Year, mhking.
Black voters should also ponder that whenever MSM published anything about Bobby Jindal, they always said he is "dark-skinned" and seldom noted that he is a brilliant, accomplished, CHRISTIAN young man!
