Well, I don't know about any one having illegal guns and I don't need $200 but there are some folks I'd really, really like to hassle in Albany. Can I just give the cops their names and have them start a record and go after these folks? One guy parks in my space once in a while and the other lets his dog whiz on my oak tree. What do you think?

I'm a rabid 2A supporter, but this doesn't seem like it's too intrusive. If they genuinely go out and seek ILLEGAL handguns, then what's the harm? If the Albany PD comes knocking on my door (I live in FL, this is hypothetical) and see that I've got no priors and own all of my firearms legally, then I'm in the clear, right?

First, this isn't about intrusive, this is conditioning the citizenery to spy on their neighbors.

Second, what is an illegal firearm, and who defines illegal?

If they get a warrant or the ok from the property owner, they do.

I know it's hard to understand, but we are rapidly becoming a police state. How much longer are we to tolerate this kind of intrusion. Many years ago I predicted a civil war, now I am certain.

You greet them outside your house or through a locked screen door, never open the door to them they can then enter (opening the door is their version of you saying come in). You do not want to let them in unless they have a warrant. You can talk to them outside or through the screen and answer with yes or no. Anything having to do with how many/kinds/etc. of guns they will need to wait until a lawyer is present (better to protect yourself from a misunderstood answer or having an answer twisted against you). Answering their questions could incriminate yourself and you have the right to not do that.

Remember, if you are a law abiding citizen, then there would be no need for them to be at your door asking you questions if you did not call them.

'TIP?' What tip? We don't need no steenking tip.'

No, more like "We got a tip that you did/have...." when they really don't.

I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THIS. DO THE POLICE DO A PREMISE SEARCH BASED SOLEY ON SOMEONE'S TIP?

Sure, with a no-knock warrant and a SWAT team if they want to. You didn't think those tools were in any way limited to drug tips did you?

"No, more like "We got a tip that you did/have...." when they really don't."

After watching the videotape of the interrogation of a 14-year-old kid who was forced/tricked/co-erced/mind-raped into giving a false confession for the murder of his younger sister when he was innocent, I would question anything and everything that came out of law enforcement. (Satellite TV - Extreme Evidence, the other night.)

Concerning the ethics of a judge who would sign a warrant for search and seizure based on a paid-for 'tip,' I would say the judge didn't have any. And even less for the idiot LEO who would have the stupidity to serve the warrant.

So what your saying is you would let them come in and look around your house. Would you let them check your gun safe? What happens if you violate one small storage ordinance in your state.

Say you don’t have a few cartridges not in compliance with the type of storage case that is required and its within 25ft of your fire place. Or god for bid you have a black powder rifle over your fire place and you still have a few grains of powder in the spiffy powder horn hanging next it. And that violates a explosive law.

Say good by to all your stuff whether its legal or not.

Do you know your state laws on storing explosives, propellants and ammo. I think most people would be in deep stuff if the law came sniffing around.

Im not getting on your case, Im just saying.

Sure you are.

I bought my dad a pocket Beretta (.380 ACP) at a gun show - instant check and everything. He lost it and thought it stolen (slipped behind the storage compartment - he found it again later, thank goodness). Reported it to the police. They ran the serial number and it was listed as stolen before I ever purchased it.

What do you think the Albany police would do to me or my dad and our firearms over possesion of this stolen pistol? Want to bet they are just looking for an excuse? My guess is that they would confiscate all of our weapons, then "lose" them, wreck them, or otherwise refuse to return them. They might even find a way to charge one of us with something!

I would not mind that if there was something to the effect that if the tip is bogus the tipper, police and judge could be fined/punished.

Speaking of Albany, did they ever get around to charging Scotty "Pervs For Peace" Ritter? Or does he get a pass because he didn't have an unregistered firearm on him at the time?

Policeman SAYS he got a "tip".

Tip leads to knock on door.

Refusal leads to search warrent.

Confiscation results in trial where informant inormation is either exposed or surpressed. (or someone is paid to lie for time off for good behavior)

Albany must be a gorezone.

The new DA just got elected with the help of illegal campaign cash from George Soros. It's a Left wing city.
