Elephant Helps Save Kids From Tsunami --- Carried Children To Safety

PHUKET (AP) When Mother Nature unleashed its wrath, a member of the Animal Kingdom stepped in.

A British tourist says she saw an elephant save several children on a Thai beach when the killer waves struck.

The animal had been brought to a beach resort in Phuket to entertain children.

Laura Barnett says the elephant’s keeper hoisted kids up onto the animal’s back, and then walked them off to safety.

Barnett told her tale from London. She and her family escaped the disaster, but the beach where she was staying was destroyed.

This was a neat story back when it was the elephant doing the saving, not just an elephant under the command of a keeper.

"Laura Barnett says the elephant’s keeper hoisted kids up onto the animal’s back, and then walked them off to safety."

Elephant's keeper is the hero. The elephant was just a means of transport.

While everyone goes goo-goo over the elephant (and rightfully so: I can't picture this working with donkeys) I'm impressed with the quick-thinking handler who instantly realized the pachyderm would be (a) high enough and (b) massive enough to withstand the floodwaters.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1310514/posts is where it's at, but it has a different source and was posted YESTERDAY.

Sometimes we get the same story from a different source on a different day, so a new posting is OK.

The elephant didn't do anything that it doesn't do every day. This illogical worship of the animals is bizarre and unworthy of FR.

LOL I got tickled every time I saw Phuket in print but I heard someone on TV pronounce it POO-ket. That is still pretty funny.

You mean the spirit of Ganish (if not the Republican party) hadn't taken over this elephant?

I'm shocked, shocked I tell you!

"This illogical worship of the animals is bizarre and unworthy of FR."

God's creation, His animals and what they do are always suppose to point our hearts and minds towards worship of God. If they do not, if instead we stop and just lavish praise on the animals, on creation, then we ARE quite guilty of idolatry. Same with His physical creation, sun, moon, stars, trees etc. All His creation is suppose to rightly point us toward worship of Him only. It is idolatry to direct worship, gratefulness, etc toward His creation. Romans One! I'm pretty sure there is also quite a bit of mention of the consequences of worshiping animals in the Old Test also. (sarcasm of course) It can seem harmless enough to say "wow, look what these elephants have done, how cool" but that has been a launching point for many who do and continue to fall victim of this. Sinful man does have to make an intentional point to turn his mind and heart toward Him in worship because man's sin nature will if left in default just naturally want to bask in worship of the creation otherwise.
