Animals are amazing. Perhaps, although we may "understand" nature more, they may be more "in touch".

What are the frequency boundaries for animals' perception? Dogs and cats could hear near ultrasound, something to 30KHz, but here one is talking deep infrasound, probably below 1 Hz. If anything, deaf humans could have their hearing shifted somewhat toward low frequencies.
