I'm fairly sure everyone in this picture died. It would be a miracle if they didn't. God bless them.

They all seem to have stupid grins on their faces. As if it were an amusement park.

That's a very dramatic photo too, but from the series posted, I got the impression these people went out to *watch* the wave come in. I'm less overwhelmed by the horror of the scene than by the stupidity of the assembled people, if that is the case.

Jeff,
This photo reminds me of the old Ten Commandments movie with the parting of the Red Sea . . . excepts the results are the extreme opposite.

The picture in post #23 was cropped from this picture.

Some of them look like they are smiling like they don't realize what is really happening.

Guess I'd be the same way.

Sorry to disappoint some people, but this particular shot looks like people are lined up to watch... because they ARE! It's a photo from the September 9th, 2002 tidal bore on the Qiantang River in China...

"The Qiantang Tidal River Bore
The largest tidal river bore in the world, China, can be 4m high, 3km wide and travel at speeds in excess of 20 mph. At certain locations reflected waves can reach 10m and the roar can be heard over an hour before its arrival."

This is not from the tsunami. It's a tidal bore in China.
