"Eff 'em all, I stayed home.
And LOVED every last minute!"
That's nice. My wife and I wanted to visit my 80-year-old parents in California, so I flew. I loved every last minute of the visit. It was well worth it. Who knows how many more Christmas visits I'll get with them.
When they're dead, I'll stay home.

I visited my 79-year-old mother in Idaho twice this year, and she came down here for Easter, so we didn't go to Idaho (from California) for Christmas this year. We've had too many problems with delayed and canceled flights, and delayed luggage to really like to fly during the holidays - Christmas or Thanksgiving. Driving has presented problems, also - sitting stuck on I-80 because Donner pass was closed, and being so delayed because of weather we had to hole up in Winnemucca for the night. So, we stay home, and visit during milder weather.
