USAID list of charities in tsunami-stricken area
US AID ^ | December 2004 | USAID

USAID has a list with links of all the relief organizations working in the tsunami area.

If everyone gives something, it will be huge.

If you have another charity that you know is active in that area (see list), consider giving to them. Post your charity here.

The Red Cross learned its lesson.

I hope so, but they'll have to re-earn my trust over time. You do understand that some of the money you give them will probably end up in the hands of the Muslim "Red Crescent" organization, don't you? "The American Red Cross continues to maintain contact with its partners on the ground and is prepared to support operations with relief supplies, financial assistance or personnel as requested by our sister International Red Cross and Red Crescent societies there."

The Salvation Army is too theologically liberal for me, but I have never heard anything bad about how they handle money.. World Vision, the Catholics, the Mormons and the Baptists are probably trustworthy. Habitat is left leaning, but the money does go where it is supposed to go.

Visit the OxFam site to see how left wing they really are. And the United Nations front organization "UNICEF" shouldn't need any discussion on these boards.

There's a pulldown menu on the webform labeled "Donor Designations" ... it offers the choices "Asian Earthquake and Tsunami" and "Catholic Relief Services programs around the world".

The Red Crescent works with the International Red Cross. It is a different organization.

The money for saving these people will make more good will than the bit the terrorists skim.

Many Muslims are very into charity. Their money sometimes get diverted, but the organizations are not just fronts.

Well, I think this is one of those things we should keep private. It's not the same sort of thing as political donations or FReepathons.

The organizations with USAID--Red Cross and everyone else you ever heard of--are probably all going in on American military ships, planes and helicopters, I bet.

I don't think the roads are passable.

The Red Crescent works with the International Red Cross. It is a different organization.

I thought you might say something like that. That's why I posted the quote and a link from the American Red Cross web site. They admit their ties to the Red Crescent, which is fine for anyone who wants the Islamic organization to get credit for the donation.

Many Muslims are very into charity.

Like the Holy Land Foundation?
