Does not include private charity.

CRAWFORD, Texas — As the number of deaths continues to rise, the United States has formed a coalition with India, Australia and Japan to coordinate worldwide relief and reconstruction efforts for those hit by tsunamis (search) following a major earthquake in the Indian Ocean on Sunday.

So far the United States has provided $35 million in aid, a number expected to rise, President Bush (search) said Wednesday from his ranch in Crawford, Texas. Japan has contributed $30 million, Australia $27 million. Other nations that have contributed relief are the United Kingdom with $29 million, Germany with $42.7 million, Saudi Arabia with $10 million, China with $2.6 million and France with $136,000 (LOAN).

France's contribution is a loan. with interest.

F**king disgusting. Thousands die, and all the frogs can think of to say is "Don't forget to make your payments!"

From another thread... France: $136,000

The french. Eughh if I was dying I would refuse their aid. 136,000 US dollars won't even buy a house here much less realistically help anyone!

My husband and I were just wondering how much it would cost to move 12 ships in the Pacific Fleet and estimated it had to be extremely expensive.

The mundane day-to-day running of a ship costs hundreds of thousands of dollars. I do not know the operational costs for cruisers or destroyer but for Carriers I think it is something like 500,000 a day but I am not totally sure.

Better yet...How much is the UN giving?

They are giving... a pat to themselves on the back and sitting on their fat @$$es and letting innocent people die like they always do (Rawana, various other massacres, Oil for Palaces program.)

Any mobilization or deployment, or going to an alert status anything other than "Vacation Time!", will exponentially increase those costs.

It is bs and you know it. Per capita we are giving way more of our $ than any of these socialist nations are also. Their measurement stick of GNP is bogus becuase we are a capitalist country still creating wealth and they are socialists hell bent on stealing our hard work and success and dragging us down to their living standard. Thank you, but no.

"...I wondered how long it would be before a 'poor downtrodden american' brought religion into the debate....blah, blah, blah.."

Much like a similar response you gave in a different thread...

"How about you pray that all religions can just get along? Religion is a choice. Whether you are mulism or christian...."

The "why can't we all get along" question is obviously a symptom of a simplistic mind missing some details.

You can wish and pray all you want for Muslims and Christians or Muslims and Jews to get along, but some of the basics of Islamic beliefs say that will never happen. According to even non-extremist followers Islamic faith, believers of other faiths are only marginally accepted as long as those "infidels" understand that they are "inferior" to Islam. The same pertains to non-Islamic laws, traditions, politics, etc.. In the eyes of Islam, all that is not Islamic is inferior. All that represents Western culture is inferior and "unclean" and against the laws of the "Nation of Islam". Few understand that the "nation" they speak of has no borders and has no country of it's own. In Islamic belief, the "Nation of Islam" is wherever there are Muslims. Your country, your city, the block you live on.

Sorry, but they will never get respect from me. And I won't waste my time wishing otherwise.

I really hope you don't apply that logic to your tithing. And, it wasn't their "measurement stick", it was ours.
