I have been lurking lately, as we have been very busy with our first harvest on our olive farm. Sorry- this is going to be a rather long post, but hopefully it is an avenue that more of you can pursue as from what the e-mails show, The Advocacy Center stil has an open investigation on Terri. You will recall that the Advocacy Center is chartered from the Federal Government to be the only agency in Florida to investigate abuse against the handicapped, on behalf of the Federal Government.

The e-mails I sent are self explanitory.
E-Mail sent to Board Memeber I found. It took hours on the internet to come up wiht these few e-mail addresses.

Dear Florida Advocacy Center and Board Members,
It has been almost one year now http://www.advocacycenter.org/news/schiavo.htm since you started your investigation into the care of Terri Schiavo. Since that time I think it has been 8 teeth have had to be extracted do to the denial of dental care which her Husband (Husband- in name only- as he lives with another woman and has 2 children by her) has ordered.

Even though I live in France I keep up with how Terri Schindler Schiavo is being treated (not). How the people of Florida treat a neurologically disabled woman will say a lot about where America stands morally.

Your organization alone, has the ability to conduct a complete investigation, and has the legal right to request sealed court records. It is a heavy responsibility, the responsibility to advocate for persons with disabilities. I am a little concerned that with it being almost a year, now nothing has come out of your organization relative to Terri Schindler Schiavo..

Can you please provide me with an update as to what percentage of the investigation is complete, and when we interested members of the public, may expect to see your completed report?

Sincerely,
Rox

Re: Terri Schiavo

Thank you for your thoughtfulness and interest regarding Ms. Schiavo and the complex ethical issues that she represents. It benefits us all for people such as you to enter into the dialogue about disability issues.

Since the initial withdrawal of hydration and nourishment from Terri Schiavo on Wednesday October 15, 2003 The Advocacy Center has received numerous complaints of possible neglect concerning Ms. Schiavo. Additionally we have received reports that there may have been a change in circumstance regarding Ms. Schiavo's condition since the last full review in State Court.

It is The Advocacy Center's federal mandate (pursuant to 29 U.S.C. §794(a) (doc 1) and 42 U.S.C.§1504 3(a)(2)(B) as the designated Protection and Advocacy Agency for the State of Florida to investigate complaints of abuse and/or neglect against persons with disabilities.

The Center is presently making demands in order to acquire reports and records necessary to undertake a thorough and impartial investigation of complaints we have received.

In order to preserve the integrity of our investigation during its pendency no further statement will be made to the public/ Press.

Dear Mr. Finch,
Many thanks for your reply as well as the attached file concerning the Supreme Court decision. If I understand correctly, that Supreme Court Case was about if the Governor and the Legislature had the right to pass the “Terri” Law. The court case did not investigate anything like you are investigating.

My question to you is, without compromising the Advocacy Center’s investigation, can you kindly provide an update about how far along the center is in its investigation? Are you 80% done, 90% done, 10% done??? I understand that the Center will not disclose any details on the progress of the investigation, I would merely like to know how far along the investigation is? It is approaching 1 yea,r and as a Federally Funded Agenc,y I would hope that you would be able to disclose to the public as much information as possible… as soon as possible, I am thinking a year is a pretty long time. Perhaps I am naive, but that is what I am thinking.

Also in my e-mail I requested that you forward the e-mail to the other Board Members. Did you do this?

Thank you in advance for your reply.

Hello Ms. XXX-

As a Program Specialist here at the Advocacy Center, I am only able to provide what information I have been instructed by Management to provide and am not personally involved in the investigation. The only % status I am aware of, is that the investigation and case is still open and the main attorney involved is still gathering expert testimony and opinion. I wish I was able to provide more detail Ms. XXX.

Board members e-mail contacts are not provided to staff to distribute, but many of the members were originally cc'd on your first e-mail and those Board members can relate your concerns about the Schiavo investigation to others on the Board that you requested.

Paul,
Many thanks for sharing with me as much as you are able to. I do appreciate it.

I totally understand your position as staff.

Can you kindly reply back to me with the General Managers e-mail address?

My only reason for requesting it, is to request that the Manager forward my e-mail on to the other Board Members.

Since you are not in a position to do so, I would just like to make sure that this is done.

Generally the Board Members shouldn’t be requested forward e-mails on to the other Board Members, traditionally General Management should do this, so if you can please provide me with that e-mail address I would be grateful.

Sincerely,

I got nothing back after the last e-mail.

Would it be a good idea for Freepers to follow up with this advocacy center? How about that Empire Journal paper. Perhaps they can shake something out of the Center. This Center alone, via Federal authority has the right to get sealed court records, why aren't they doing anything. Note in the first reply back to me they attached a file where Bush got knocked down by the Florida Supremes. I think they are ducking this one. What kind of efforts have they made? Make sure and click on the link http://www.advocacycenter.org/news/schiavo.htm
Well, hello! It has been long enough, doncha think?

A Birthday Wish For Bobby Schindler!
By, Cheryl Ford RN
Tampa, Florida

January 7, 2005
Bobby Schindler turned 40 on the 6th of January. His sister Terri turned 41 last month on December 3rd. Bobby and Terri Schindler are very close to each other. When asked of Mary Schindler (Bobby's mother) what she remembers most about the birthdays her children have celebrated, she replied with a giggle, "The kids always had a lot of fun together at their parties. We love celebrating together. Suzanne and Terri always complained when it came time for Bobby to celebrate his party. Bobby's birthday was so close to Christmas, he ended up with double the presents."

Bobby Schindler is a teacher at Tampa Catholic High School in Florida.
Yesterday, Robert Sr., Mary, their daughter Suzanne and granddaughter Alex surprised Bobby in his classroom with a birthday cake and balloons. Mary remarked, "Normally Terri would have been right there with us when deciding to make a surprise visit to her brother. However yesterday, we suddenly had to stop and think before walking into the classroom. What if Bobby saw us there and our initial presence upset him? We were concerned about him reacting, thinking we were there to deliver him bad news about Terri."

Mary continued, "We decided to send our granddaughter into the room before us with the balloons. We have to make considerations for every action we take these days, even when it comes down to a simple surprise visit to wish our son Happy Birthday."

Bobby and Terri spent hours playing together when they were growing up. When they moved away from their parents home, they still remained very close to each other. I have personally come to know Bobby. He, like the rest of his family are wonderful people to be around. They have a family bond that is so rare to see in this day and age. Knowing how hard Bobby is fighting for his sisters life, I am quite certain that one of the best birthday presents Bobby could have received yesterday was to have been told his sister was free to return home to his family. Bobby has said many times, "home is where Terri would want to be."

Happy 40th Birthday Bobby!
May your birthday wish for Terri's freedom come true!

This is great work you've done, and I completely appreciate it! In the future, if you could ping myself or floriduh voter, rather than to "all", you may get more attention to your post. Sometimes on these long threads it's hard to find out where I left off reading. I'm glad I backtracked some, because your post was well worth the effort you put into it. I'll ping others to it now.

Terri ping to post 370! This is a long post, but I think it is very worthwhile to check it out. I appreciate the effort that our fellow Freeper in France has undertaken on Terri's behalf. It sure would be nice to know how that investigation is going, and if there is anything that we as a group of advocates for Terri can do to move it along.

If anyone would like to be added to or removed from my Terri ping list, please let me know here or by FReepmail.
