I am forced to conclude that my defense of the use of the term insurgent is 100% accurate.

Ummmm. Not so fast, Sherlock.

An insurgent targets the government, not civilians at random.

Terrorists, have no such self-restraint.

Big enough distinction for me!

You both have described the tactics of the terrorists, and, of course, you are right on target. I do not disagree with you at all on that point.

Are you both suggesting that the goals of the terrorist insurgents (see, terrorist very nicely modifies the word insurgent) is NOT to bring an end to the current government? If you are suggesting that, I disagree.

Dr Watson (that's you Publius), please note that the terrorist insurgents have been targeting more and more those arms of the government known as the police and the army recruits. You kind of made my point for me.
