This causes me to wonder whether stock in CarFax is available to the public.....

The problem with CarFax is that it only lists reported problems. You have to assume that the repair shops doing any work report the problems and that the state any accidents occur in report the accident. Many do not and will not release the accident information. These two factors aside, in theory at least, CarFax can be a valuable tool. At least you get their "warranty" should something slip by them.

Sumptin' tells me these cars will show up squeaky clean! Sea water and electronics do not mix well.

Good and true points. Pardon my "gallows humor."

This huge disaster is not at all funny, but this thread brought to mind the CarFax concept.....
