Theyre ranking it slightly ahead of Paris Hilton and slightly behind Scott Peterson in importance.
I disagree. I think coverage has been good on FNC. You can't surf on cable without seeing stories about it. The airport stuff looks like filler.
I'm sure it falls in there someplace.
BTW ... Have I told you about my grandchild being an honor student?
See what I mean?
I think the tsunami story is well reported, I just think the story of Michael Jackson and Scott Petersen is over reported.
(sarcasm ON)
"Hey, it didn't happen in America at rush hour so who cares? In more important news there's a stall in the number four lane on the I-5 southbound and, next, we'll have Mary covering the .1 inch of rainfall we had last night in the STORM WATCH!!! segment. Back to you, Tom, at the petting zoo where the pandas just arrived!"
(sarcasm OFF)
American TV news is pitiful. Which is why I'm on FR for my morning news.
I don't buy into the argument that because something bad has happened that we are not allowed to talk about anything else. What more is there to see? I saw the news, and found out about what happened. For the next two days was there any actual news? No. Just endless "experts" stating the obvious. Why not focus on the airport stuff where there is news to report that affects everyone who might be travelling?
Coverage will pick up when they start getting cameras there. Already today I've seen more coverage than I have over the past two days. TV news is driven by images; if they don't have images of the disaster or the devastation it might as well not have happened.
It won't be long before the 'Tsunami' video game comes out. We are nearly as desensitized to suffering as were the Roman citizens who were entertained by death and violence in the Colosseum. It's interesting that this attitude seems to have evolved in tandem with 'nonjudgmentalism' and 'tolerance'. Coincidence?
The sites of the disarters are in total chaos. In order to have news reports there must be both some means of communication, and transportation.
Neither is present. How is news supposed to be gathered and disseminated? Ouija Board? Chicken entrails?
What a profoundly trite and useless article!
Am I to suppose that Scott Peterson, UFO's, crop circles, and Maxine Water's deep thoughts, are going to take a back seat this?
The news today doesn't know how to write stories or research anything without live camera footage. They've gotten lazy, relying on just narrating what we can all see for ourselves on grainy home-made videos.
The video clips of the wave and the dead are coming in now... so we'll be seeing more coverage on the news soon.
But dude, only a handful of Americans wiped out...
Yesterday morning FOX News had a particularly amusing moment. In the 9a new hour they took a call from an American who supposedly witnessed the tsunami wave hit the beach in Thailand. He described what it looked like, people running, and how it was the most frightening thing ha had ever witnessed. He was then asked, "what did it sound like?" His response, "it sounded just like the Howard Stern radio show."
A nice lesson for vetting your sources better, to be sure.
To be fair to Fox they don't have as big an international staff as CNN or BBC.
They've now moved Jennifer Griffin from Israel who's doing a compentent job.
I agree, if a movie star would have been killed then that would have propelled the story to prime time, after all, one celebrity is worth say, 100,000 unknowns ...
Last night, Fox and CNN led with the Tsunami story. MSNBC still thinks the Ohio recount is more important.
This just in from the NY Post...laughing at the irony.
IMO, FoxNews is the best of MSM TV in fair and balanced reporting of scandals. Small concilation for those seeking information on Beslen, Bam, Indonesia tsunami, and all.
FoxNews, despite what Roger Ailes says, is not news for the heartland; it's schmooze for the heartland. All this network does is talk and argue.
With a notable exception of the venerable Lt Col., Oliver North and Neil Cavuto, Fox has the same innane analysis as Inside Edition. They really stink when it comes to anything of substance beyond Laci, Jacko, and Hacking.
No doubt in my mind that the NY Post article will hit the Fox Senior Editor's desk as a stunning, new development.
"How should we address this boss?"
"More T&A reporting on the Victoria Secret fashion show."
"Great idea, boss!"
"Better make it on the 8's."
"Right."
Spot On! The MSN coverage may, in time, possibly catch up with the enormity of this catclysmic event. Meantime, prepare to watch empty-headed news readers with no clue sort through the flotsam and jetsam of this story. Their own leaders baffled by where and how to fit this story into Scot Petersons and other quasi-sensational ongoing "stories" they cover to fill their 24-hour chore of filling the airwaves. Prepare yourself for the heart breakingly inappropriate responses to all this. Witness the UN wienie accusing the US of being "stingy" in response to this disaster as well as similar myopic and totally inconsequential coverage. Wait also for the crowning moments in the humane recognition of this incredibly tragic experience in world history. In the meantime, batten the hatches for pure idiocy.
Touching back on your thread to note for those lauding Fox News...right now the State Department has been holding a briefing on this disaster. MSNBC and CNN have been covering it. Fox is covering the Supermodel who was caught up in it (I'm pleased she survived, but still).
