Except the continuing efforts to streamline the "moving pieces" (troops from point A to B) throught the world theatre, most of this isn't really "new."

The items may not be so new, but Barnett has an interesting way of viewing the world - dividing it up in to the globolizing Core (that's us and a lot of other countries) and the non-integrating Gap (such as Haiti, Central America, Andean countries, most of Africa, southwest Asia, etc). For a bird's eye view, find his March, 2003 Esquire article (The Pentagon's New Map). He also has a book by the same name which I am currently reading. He gives frequent seminars which are broadcast on C-SPAN every few weeks.

I don't know if Barnett's analysis is correct, but it is worth reading.
