There's something on the market here in the NY Metro are called "Motor Silk." Supposedly, it's a one-time oil additive that increases gas mileage.
Has anyone else heard of this?
I didn't fall for Slick-50, or any of the chlorinated or teflon oil additives. I change my oil and filter every 3,000 miles, and have done so for as long as I've owned automobiles.
Every one of them has lasted 100,000+ miles, and many of them have gone over 200,000.
Thanks in advance for any replies.
So did I, until about ten years ago, when I read that every major car rental company changes the oil in their cars every 5,000 miles.
I now observe that mileage counter, with no ill effects. Still get 140,000 or so miles out of a car before I get tired of it.
Scheduled maintenance in my Freelander is to change the oil every 12,000 miles.
This can't hurt. I go 3333 miles on each change. That's 3 every 10,000 miles, so it's easy to remember on the odometer 3333, 6666, and 9999. Most of the people in the industry will admit that for average service every 5000 miles is just fine, but always use first quality oil, no recycled crud.
This is what I use:

I use Royal Purple in my blazer and change the oil every 12,000 miles. Just passed 190,000 miles and going strong.
