I know several women who worked hard to help Liza attain and maintain sobriety in the 80s. Regrettably, it didn't work.
Cold, hard fact is that sobriety isn't for everyone. I fear one day we'll learn that her life will have ended in much the same way as her mother's did. Hope I'm wrong, but her situation doesn't look hopeful from my point of view.
