Awesome video of the wave hitting a beach. (Admin Moderator, I felt this worthy of it's own thread instead of posting deep into existing threads. Pull if necessary)

I saw this...it is not a "huge wave" it's more like a wave that sweeps up while you are laying on the beach. The terrible video is the one where people are clutching to what looks like a telephone pole as the waters come raging down the street. A few could not hold on and were swept away.

An Indian man cries as he holds the hand of his eight-year-old son, who was killed
in a tsunami in Cuddalore, southern India, December 27, 2004. The death toll in a
tsunami that slammed into coasts from India to Indonesia topped 22,000 as rescuers
scoured the sea for missing tourists and fears of disease grew as soldiers raced to
recover rotting bodies. (Arko Datta/Reuters)

Finally got the video to work. It was unbelievable.
At first, you think it's just a big wave. But it keeps coming and coming and then you realize that just about everybody near sea level in that shot was ground up by debris or drowned.
And that same scene was repeated in hundreds and hundreds of places all over that part of the world. Horrifying.

Dumb Q:
What was left of the energy after the wave had traveled as far as Hawaii? Any effects felt on N or S America?

For some perspective, I believe I know where that was shot, on the map below, it would be near the Eden Bungalow, at the top part of the map, looking on to the corner of Thaweewong road which is the beach road. Looking south and to the west.

Phuket Island is a popular tourist spot after being made famous by the Leonardo DiCaprio film, "The Beach."Maybe Leonardo will think twice about making something popular......His damned movie killed a bunch of people.
