The Vatican, appealing for urgent assistance from world Catholics, said on Tuesday it had raised $6 million so far in emergency aid following Asia's tsunami disaster that killed more than 50,000 people.
Members of church groups like Caritas and Jesuit Refugee Services were also being dispatched to affected countries to reinforce relief efforts, according to Cor Unum, the Vatican organisation that coordinates charity funds.
