A study in contrasts (Mel Gibson/Michael Moore)
Washington Times ^ | 12/27/04 | Jim Hirsen

No two people could be more different than Mel Gibson and Michael Moore.

Still, some in the media seem intent on matching up "The Passion of the Christ" filmmaker with the onewhofashioned "Fahrenheit 9/11." Roger Friedman of Fox News reported that the Golden Globes asked Mr. Gibson to co-present an award with Mr. Moore at this year's ceremonies.
Rumors ran rampant that a major national newsmagazine was attempting to feature the two together on its cover. Many in the print media barely touched upon the inexplicable Golden Globe snub of Mr. Gibson and "ThePassionofthe Christ." When mention of the slight was made, the name of Mr. Moore's documentary often appeared inthesamesentence alongside it.

[snip]

However, recently some full-page ads appeared in Variety. One of the ads contained patriotic symbols, an image of Mr. Moore, the film title "Fahrenheit 9/11" and a slogan that read: "YOUR VOTE STILL COUNTS. Now more than ever." Another had the Bush White House in the background along with the aforementioned caption.
Evidently, Mr. Moore and Miramax have decided to take an unusual and rather questionable approach in their Academy Award quest. They are essentially encouraging Academy members to use their vote as an act of political revenge rather than an acknowledgement of a film's merit.

[snip]

Could the clean-shaven, showered and tailored new look of Mr. Moore be just another part of his Oscar promo? Well, let's look at the approach of the filmmaker who is being mentioned so often in the same breath as Mr. Moore. With Academy nominations right around the corner, Mr. Gibson, along with his company, Icon, has chosen not to engage in the conventional Oscar promo game, preferring instead, as sources close to Mr. Gibson indicate, to let the film speak for itself.

I don't follow the Academy Awards very much, and know very little about them. However, it seems to me that most of them are much like the Nobel Peace Prize, with the common theme being anti-Americanism.

F 911 seems a perfect candidate. In any event, I hope the Mooreons win, it will help us to achieve 60 in 06.

It is an insult to Mr. Gibson to be placed, or thought to be of the same caliber as that fat slob Micheal Moore.

Mel Gibson produces movies, He produces good movies, taking care to research the facts for the movies he makes based on historical events. Mel Gibson incorporates historical accuracy in his final product and doesn't let creative license distort it to any great extent.

Micheal Moore on the otherhand, makes cheap, low budget politically motivated "documentaries", and I'm being generous giving it that label. The truth is Micheal Moore's work contains no truth, his cheap clips are nothing but lies which serve his own warped political agenda. They are also a reflection of his own deep psychological problems, ranging from failure with female relationships, and failure to establish friendships and a social life in general. Therefore he attacks the entire nation, it's government and the dynamic, successful people he envies.

For Hollywood loony leftists to try put Mel Gibson in the same category as Micheal Moore is laughable.
If I were Mel Gibson, I wouldn't caught dead on the same stage as that fat slob, and I would be insulted by the attempt to do so.

I will wait patiently for Mel Gibson to produce a movie about Mohammad based on the TRUE origional and ONLY record of Muhammad as told by Ishaq. It will never happen however, because the truth can never be told in hollywood, or anyehere else for that matter when it comes to the cult of islam.

The liberals are doing the same thing to the Oscars as the Swedish did to the Nobel Prize. Moore winning an Oscar is (to me) like Yassir Arafat winning the Nobel Peace Prize. It is not a new concept....but then liberals aren't very original.

I'm annoyed that those two names are used in the same sentence. Mel desreves more respect than that.

thanks for thread Kat & for ping NY..

doubt Mel will do this. His refusal will speak volumes.

But if for some reason he does, what a difference in class will be evident (at least to we VRWC crazies) huh?

Happily, he's already shown much more class by not begging to the Academy than Moore has.

Happy Christmas!
