The U.S. should work to get both Russia AND Ukraine as well as many eastern European States into NATO, freeze out the French, Germans and other Euroweenies (even the average Brit supports Blair's foreign policy and the average Italian supports Berlesconi's foreign policy as much as the average Spaniard supported the former pro-western Spanish government.)
Then the U.S. should engineer a massive new Marshall style program to provide American economic support and expertise and investment in these countries. With their cooperation and support, we will be able to deal effectively with the western Europeans and the Islamofascists.
Doesn't sound to bad, unfortunetly I doubt that the EU would like that to much. They are pretty set against us. This is a coming togather over Ukraine only because they want it within their ever expending borders. NATO should have been transformed into an economic association as well as defensive. We could have preempted all those issues we have and will have with the EU. Keeping Poland, Czech and other nations in our orbit instead of EU's.

Actually it isn't possible to built any alliance with Poland and Russia together.
