10 meter displacement is massive - no wonder there was an ocean basin-wide tsunami. By way of comparison, the San Francisco earthquake of 1906 had a maximium lateral offset of about 6 meters and the Fort Tejon (southern California) earthquake of 1857 have a vertical and lateral offset of about 9 meters.
