Actually, 'tack' is riding equipment, f'rinstance a moose saddle.

Tack in this instance refers to a direction as in tacking on a sail boat. If you take a different tack you're changing direction. Thank you, thank you. I'll be here all day to answer your questions about the weird and wonderful english language.
