An Ex-Governor Says He's Guilty (NYT's Can't Even Fake Objectivity on Front Page)

"Former Gov. John G. Rowland, once the proud darling of Connecticut Republicans..."

"once the proud darling of Connecticut Republicans...". This, on the front page, above the fold, of the NYT. It is indeed news which should be disseminated. It's just a happy coincidence that the partisan NYT can publicize the ill behaviour of a (R). What's problematic is the gloating embodied in the quoted phrase. How about just the facts that a corrupt politician was brought to the bar of justice? That's what the front page is for, hard news, the FACTS presesented OBJECTIVELY. The editorial section is where you editorialize (there is an editorial in the same addition-can't miss the opportunity to go after someone with the (R) before his name). Regarding balance, I have yet to find the name Clinton or Condit modified by the phrase "once the proud darling of the Democrats".

The difference is this guy is an admitted felon, and is going to jail.

But didn't they say Bob "demolish the CIA" Toricelli was "once the proud darling of Democrats"? ;)

You know, I was going to kid you about picking on one phrase, but I was struck by the word "darling". The Old Gay Lady strikes again.

In this instance, the nature of the crime or the person's guilt isn't what's important so much as the NYT's inability to act as a responsible news source. The quoted remark is a opinion, and sarcastic and gloating at that. Again, appropriate for the editorail page, not the front page. Addtionally, the NYT would not do this with a (D) they support. Crimes not withstanding.

You are right on both counts. Yes, it's only one phrase. I am being overly sensitive. But it is rather "snarky". It's just another brick on the pile that is burying the MSM. Thing is that while the pile of bricks of representing media bias is growing, it still hasn't buried the bastards. The MSM, while wounded, is nowhere close to dead. And so long as they are still alive, they can do irreparable damage to America. So, while it's only one small brick, I take the opportunity to hurl it. Just my small, patriotic contribution.

Rowland belongs in jail. Perhaps he will be able to have former Illinois Governor Lyin' George Ryan as his cellmate. That would double the justice. The Connecticut Republican Party will now be able to begin a long recovery from the likes of Rowland and his cronies. Weicker was no better just richer and more practiced at corruption. Both are now dead issues.

I don't necessarily agree that as long as the MSM is "alive" it can do irreparable harm to America. I understand your point in that they have an anti-American, anti-capitalism, and anti-Jewish/Christian agenda. But I think they'll always be around. However, by tossing, as you stated, "one small brick" at a time, we can make them nearly irrelevant, an institution that only liberals turn to. Even then, they'll still be there, but their influence over American public opinion and governmental policy will be almost non-existent. We all have to keep hurling those bricks though......

Rowland belongs in jail - but so does McGreevey. And I don't see the Times gloating about his demise.

I don't think the NYT ever referred to McGreevey as "darling"...

McGreevey makes three! I did not want to suggest that either of the other two should wind up with McGreevey as a "roommate". The Eighth Amendment prohibits cruel and unusual punishment.

I am actually nicer than I pretend in posting here but let that be our little secret lest my reputation suffer. Merry Christmas to you too and a Happy New Year!
