I don't know why they are objecting. Bush should nominate someone younger. Someone who will be on the court longer then Scalia who is in his late 60's. If anything they should be grateful that Bush would nominate him for that reason.

If Bush nominates Scalia as Chief Justice, he will also be able to nominate a replacement for Scalia's seat as Associate Justice. He could nominate a much younger man for that slot -- hence the pro-aborts face a double threat: Scalia as Chief, plus a younger man in Scalia's slot.
