I can't help but think that Chertoff has been completely vetted. He's also been through 2 or 3 Senate confirmations already. So he 'should' be one of the good guys, right??

I would have thought that Kerik would have been vetted prior to the announcement too...but we saw where that went. I think that Chertoff may be the most appealing to both the GOP and the Dems....well other than Hillary...Chertoff was deeply involved in the Whitewater investigations.
During Chertoff's time in NY he was close with Guiliani, and has a reputation for going after the big mob bosses and their ilk. High profile, high money targets.
V....the info. you found really threw me for a loop...the days of an administrations appointments not being placed under the microscope by the general public are long gone.
Just 5 or 10 years ago....Kerik would have gotten the appointment; because those who knew of his misdeeds would have been too intimidated to come forward.
