Why do Air Marshals have a dress code?

This post will be unusually long. That's because I've decided to use my bandwith today to combat a government agency's self-serving--and dangerous--spin campaign. The great thing about the blogosphere is that I can give over as much space as necessary to others who don't have a voice.

And nobody at the Transportation Security Administration, at the Federal Air Marshals Service, or in the White House can stop me.

Last week, I wrote a column on the idiotic dress code policy instituted by Thomas Quinn, head of the Federal Air Marshals Service. Quinn promptly dispatched his flack, David M. Adams, to the cable networks this week to accuse Washington Times reporter Audrey Hudson and me of spreading "patently false" reports and "misinformation."

In his appearances on both MSNBC and FOX News, Adams denied that a dress code exists ("hype," he sniffed; "totally wrong," he decried)...and then confirmed that the policy does in fact exist (marshals must "dress professionally"). Adams straight-facedly maintained that the code gives marshals "flexibility."

Policy is the God of the bureacrat. The more inane the policy the easier it is to suceed in it, for inanity's explanation is always inane and never real, thus reality can never be its measure.

Now the question arises, if a terrorist were to grope the breasts of an unprofessionally dressed sky marshall, how would the leftists react? After all, to leftists, being a terrorist = good, groping breasts = bad... wow, what a dilemma!

Yep. I have seen the Air Marshals at Logan, etc., dressed in 3 piece suits (very inconspicuous that way) and they are waved past the metal detectors for all to see by the TSA screeners.

I watched the FAM representative on Fox the other morning. Because of my job, I knew that almost every word out his mouth was meant as a complete deception. You had to parse his words to get the truth. He kept saying things about the total lie about 'business suits' and 'ties' - yet if you parsed his words you may have seen that he was spinning. If you are involved with FAMs in any way, you knew he was doing nothing less than LYING.

Words cannot express the distain that men like Quinn have for ANYONE not having a background in the Secret Service - including his own men and women. This man, and several like him are a threat to our national security.

For the record, Quinn, and others like him have been roadblocks to armed pilots as well.

Like Michelle, I can't be fired either. Seeign the brave men and women on the front line doing their duty as FAMs demands that citizens stop at nothing less than demanding that men like Quinn be sent packing.

It might be the Airline(s) itself that requires the code. Allot of times when I flew on airline-related business, I would have to wear business attire per the airline dress requirements. I am not sure. But I can find out if one wants to know...

The airlines don't even have much of a dress code for their own employees when they fly now. The reason: someone better dressed than everyone else stands out and is recognizable as an employee, which makes paying passengers resentful sometimes. Quinn is the lifetime political hack that makes these brave men and women worry more about what they are wearing then they are about the REAL job.

I think it is easy to make assumptions on the whole scenario when there are vague generalities tossed around.
