Los Alamos Security Dumps Humvees For Better-Armored Vehicle
Security police at Los Alamos National Laboratory have scrapped their Humvees in favor of the Lenco BearCat, which they said has better armor.
The BearCat is a 15,000-pound, blast-resistant, bulletproof vehicle that seats 10 and costs $300,000, said lab officials. While armor can be added to a Humvee, the Lenco BearCat comes with it.

AS soon as I asked I googled it. Ugly.
I wonder how the new vehicle would do on bad terrain.
LOL
Thanks
Missing hard drives found behind a copier in a place that had already been searched.
There have been some other security lapses since, including the discovery of a hermit living in a canyon on lab property, complete with solar power.

Yeah, that gas tank needs to be raised just a little so it's right next to the drivers head.
That's what I want for rush-hour traffic :-)
As a former LANL Protective Force Lt. and SRT officer, I have to say that I'm somewhat ambivalent about this one. In my time there, we had some good gear, some pretty good gear, and some really bad gear.
I hope that this one turns out well. It may seem pricey, but considering what they protect, those guys need the best equipment money can buy. I hope for their sakes, that this is quality gear.
The "security problems" that LANL has had in recent years haven't been caused by "Security" people. They are for the most part very capable and professional. A very small minority of operations and research people are the ones who break the rules and create problems for the rest.
You can have the best security rules, procedures, and policies in the world, but if one person doesn't follow them, and is not held accountable for violating them, it brings the entire system down. LANL has a management problem, not a security problem.
