I've actually been to Chile and talked to real Chileans. Pinochet was a hero to many of them. He was the first person to reverse communism and destroy the communist religion of dialectical materialism. That religion being that the world will progress from capitalism to socialism and never go backward. Before Pinochet no country had ever reverted from communism to capitalism. The average communist revolution kills hundreds of times more people than he killed over the course of 15 years and those dead are usually only mentioned as a footnote by the fawning historians, especially over at Wikipedia.
